This is the internal space you have to work with but keep in mind that utilizing space around the position of the container is always an option. Container conversions provide durable and cost-effective building solutions for a multitude of applications. Their modular nature makes them stackable and can be cantilevered into unlimited architectural designs.

The modification options for shipping containers are vast; it all depends on their intended purpose and the space that’s available at the site they will be installed. We have a team of architects that will make the design journey smooth and satisfactory.

These are the most popular container conversion options:

  • Shipping container homes
  • Accommodation
  • Shipping Container office
  • Conference Room
  • Storage
  • Kitchen
  • Cafe or Restaurant
  • Container stalls & shops
  • Custom Designs

1. Shipping Container Homes.

A single 40ft container can be modified into a 2 bedroom house with a kitchenette and a single bathroom & toilet. At Container Design Africa we have both standard container home designs options and we have a team of Designers and Engineers that handle all custom design requests. A 40ft container can also be converted into 2 studio apartments also known as Bedsitters.

2. Container Accommodation

Containerized housing is rather vast and doesn’t really fit into the Home category as such. Under accommodation, we can account for hostel type of arrangement with multiple beds (or bunk beds) in a container. This is ideal for remote job sites where employees lack nearby accommodation. I would recommend for one to keep a very open mind on this option since your imagination and need is your only limitation.

3. Container Office and Conference room.

There are many options for office setups in container converted designs. You can go for an open office either with or without cubicles and a washroom. The other option is a fully partitioned office. The most logical option for a conference room is an open office with the desired furniture set up.

4. Storage.

Shipping containers are to withstand harsh conditions both at sea and on dry land. Their structural integrity makes them safer and ideal for storage purposes. Modifications are made on and in the shipping container to facilitate the storage of the desired products.

5. Kitchen.

Container Design Africa Container Kitchen- Our Commercial and Light-Duty mobile shipping container kitchens are intended to be used both on and off-the-grid. They can be hooked to a power source either from a nearby building, hydro-line, or generator.Any other modifications to facilitate gas usage are made in-line with the regulations.

6. Café & Restaurant.

At Container Design Africa we offer many standard designs for restaurants and coffee shops. Contact us for inquiries about our standard shipping container restaurant designs and for custom design inquiries.

7. Container Shopping mall & commercial stalls.

A single 40ft shipping container can be partitioned into 5 stalls, 4 stalls, 3 stalls, 2 stalls, or modified into a single shop. Since shipping containers and stack-able and cantilever, they are a perfect shopping center solution meant for slow and gradual expansion. A container mall can begin as two 40ft container commercial stalls and gradually be expanded into a mall. Keep in mind that the intention to expand needs to be mentioned beforehand in order to make appropriate structural preparations.
